Registration of Locally Manufactured Goods

1) What is CGO?
CGO stands for Customs General Order issued by the Revenue Division (CBR) of the Ministry of Finance & Revenue

2) Why is it issued?
Imports under all concessionary SROs are subject to the items not manufactured locally. CGO provides a list of items manufactured locally.

3) What is CGO –12/2002 and CGO-10/2003?
CGO –12/2002 consolidates all the CGOs issued till 15 June, 2002 and Chapter 11 is the list of locally manufactured Good. CGO –10/2003 is the revision CGO-12/2002.

4) How was the list of locally manufactured Goods notified before CGO -12/2002?
CGO-07/98 dated March 24, 1998 was the list of locally manufactured Goods before the issuance of CGO-12/2002.

5) What are the benefits to be part of the list?
(i) Local manufacturers mentioned in the list are considered as recognized local manufacturers. (ii) The locally manufactured goods are protected against the concessionary imports (iii) Local manufacturers are projected globally on web site of EDB, which provides opportunities of B2B interaction

6) How can one become part of the list?
The manufacturers have to apply through EDB website www.engineeringpakistan.com on prescribed format. The information shall be verified and after scrutiny of products, the company shall be enlisted. The verification involves capacity against the total requirement of the country, quality and client satisfaction.

7) Why is the information regarding my Pakistani customers being asked?
CGO is the list of products for commercial purposes. Information regarding customers helps to determine that the product is commercially acceptable and their feed back ensures that it is reliable in quality and fulfills demand.

8) How can I provide customer information when I have just set up my manufacturing facilities and therefore do not have any customers?
Your facility may be physically inspected for suitable in house commercial manufacturing of the product.

9) Is it mandatory to be ISO certified for qualifying the registration in CGO?
YES

A 3-member delegation of Pakistan led by Mr. Tariq Ikram, State Minister and Chairman of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) attended 3 days international conference arranged by Dutch Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) at Rotterdam, according to message received here today. The others members are Mr. Imtiaz Rastgar, Vice Chairman Advisory Council, Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives and Mr. Abdul Hafeez Chaudhry, CEO, Engineering Development Board (EDB). Mr. Abdul Hafeez Chaudhry Additional Secretary ,Ministry of Industries, Production & Special Initiatives has taken over as Chief Executive Officer, Engineering Development Board on additional charge basis after expiry of the contract period of Mr. Imtiaz Rastgar. EDB has initiated competitiveness and efficiency improvement exercise for the budgetary year 2007-08 to rationalize tariff structure and preparing the industry for facing the future challenges of WTO. Minister Jahangir Khan Tareen formed committee of OVMs & EDB officials to solve differences on tariff given in AIDP. JICA advised Pakistan to focus on high value manufacturing. Pak Industrial sector grows at 10.9 percent during the first quarter of current financial year.
