MIDEST 2006

 

Midest, a leading subcontracting show in Paris started on 7th November 2006. The fair is one of the largest of its kind with estimated sales of Euro 403.6 billions in Europe alone.

 

Pakistan is participating in Midest Fair with 16 leading companies under the flagship of Engineering Development Board (EDB) of Pakistan dealing in forged and machined components, injection molding, blow molding, fabrication, sheet metal parts, low and high pressure compressors, aluminum castings, precision engineering components and assemblies, plastic parts for automobiles, medical, consumer and packaging, portable gas cylinder valves, brass forging and machining, heat treated and machined components, transmission gears, automobile parts and components.

 

Pakistan pavilion received positive attention of the visitors on the opening day. Pakistan Pavilion located in Hall 6 remained in focus of the visitors as the quality of components displayed by exhibitors impressed not only the potential buyers but also other exhibitors at the fair ground.  

 

Mr. Niclolas Raphael, Chairman French Vehicle Equipment Industries visited Pakistan Pavilion (FVEI) to discuss the possibilities of future partnership between French and Pakistani companies with Mr. Imtiaz Rastgar, CEO Engineering Development Bureau. Mr. Nabeel Hashmi, Chairman Business Development Committee, Mr. Almas Hyder Ex-Chairman TUSDEC, Mr. Fawad Hasan former commercial counselor of Pakistan in Germany and other officials of EDB were also present at the meeting.

Minister for industries & production Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo said that steel industry's problems would be resolved on priority basis. The third meeting of AIDC was held on December 16 under the chairmainship of Mr Asad Elahi, Chief Executive officer EDB. Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Minister of Industries and Production has appreciated role of Engineering Development Board (EDB) in development of industry particularly engineering sector. The EDB has prepared a blueprint of the long term National Steel Policy to cover the widening demand and supply gap by achieving a production target of 15 million tons of steel by 2020. The government is preparing the first ever national policy for steel sector to exploit its potential besides provide incentives to the industry to enhance its production capacity. The EDB has taken up job to consult the stakeholders of the steel sector to take their input for the proposed national steel policy.  CEO, EDB has urged the car assemblers to strictly adhere to indigenous programme given in Auto Industrial Development Programme.
