COMPETITIVENESS AND EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT EXERCISE

(BUDGET 2008-09)

EDB has initiated the Competitiveness & Efficiency Improvement Exercise for Budget year 2008-09 to achieve the objective of “Competitiveness & Productivity”. Following Committees has been constituted in this regard.

 

i.                    20 Sectoral Committees on Engineering & Allied sectors and their Terms of References (TORs) and Guiding Principles.

(The Committees having participation of renowned manufacturers/ experts on each Committee as members and headed by an experienced industrialist/ expert as its Convenor). The Committee on Automotive Sector have separate TORs

 

ii.                 Committee on Simplification of SROs & TORs

 

(The Committee has Members from the Ministry of Industries, Production & Special Initiatives, Ministry of Commerce, Central Board of Revenue & Experts on Tariff /SROs, & shall deal with the issues related to SROs, given as under or other related).

 

iii.       The last date for the submission of the proposals from the respective Convenors is  20th March 2008.

 

 

Note:   Kindly send proposals of your Sector to the relevant Convenors at the Addresses mentioned.

Mr Asad Elahi a senior civil servant with professional background has joined as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Engineering Development Board (EDB) on July 8. CEO EDB has assured continuation of public-private cooperation policy for progress of engineering industry in the country .  A high level delegation of Pakistan Association of Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) led by acting Chairman Capt (R) Muhammad Akram called on CEO, EDB, Mr. Asad Elahi on july 16. The EDB has prepared a blueprint of the long term National Steel Policy to cover the widening demand and supply gap by achieving a production target of 15 million tons of steel by 2020. The goverment is preparing the first ever national policy for steel sector to exploit its potential besides provide incentives to the industry to enhance its production capacity. The EDB has taken up job to consult the stackeholders of the steel sector to take their input for the proposed national steel policy.  CEO, EDB has urged the car assemblers to strictly adhere to indigenous programme given in Auto Industrial Development Programme. CEO, EDB visited Lahore from july 21 to 22, 2008.
